Introduction:

This guide has been tested for Advanced Web Ranking Enterprise Edition version 11.1 or above to allow you to add Proxy Servers to your Advanced Web Ranking installation.

We are able to generate an AWR proxy import file for you; we will cover this using both the automated method and the manual method to setup your proxies.

This guide also covers how to categorise your proxies and how to assign groups of proxies to specific projects for specific geo projects.

We cover the search friendly settings for the proxies and how to improve the performance of search queries by tweaking the default AWR settings.

Automated import of Proxy Servers

Step 1 - Setup your list of Proxy Servers to be available to AWR

Open a ticket via our helpdesk system asking for us to generate a AWR proxy import file for you. You can do this by logging in to our support system and raising a ticket. http://customers.trustedproxies.com

Categorising Proxy Servers

When you are using multiple Proxy Servers for multiple locations it is important to categorise them into logical units or simply geographic areas. This will help you to identify which Proxy Servers you need to add to your projects.

After you have added you Proxy Servers using 1 of the methods outlined above, choose the "Add" option from the toolbar and select "Add Category" from the drop-down menu

Add Category

To start we will assume we have US and UK Proxy Servers:

89.32.145.*      UK Range
107.181.130.*   US Range

We will create two categories, a UK category and a US category.

Select the UK Proxy Servers and then click "Create Category"

Assign a name for the category and click "OK"

We are now presented with a new bold label in the list.

Select the + arrow on the screen to drill down the list of Proxy Servers.

After we have drilled down and verified the UK Proxy Servers are added to the category correctly, repeat the instructions above for the US Proxy Servers.

US Proxy Servers

The Proxy Servers are now ready to be added to our projects.

Adding Proxy Servers (and categories of Proxy Servers) to projects

As mentioned earlier the reason for using geo-location Proxy Servers is to get the search ranking and details from that location via the search engines. A common mistake is to add Proxy Servers from another country to return a separate country’s search results. In this example we will use the TrustedProxies website. By default the Proxy Servers added to AWR will be available to all projects. What we need to do in our project is remove the US Proxy Servers and uncategorised Proxy Servers in order to return the correct search results by selecting the correct Proxy Servers to use.

Select Settings from the navigation bar on the left.

Select Settings

Select Project Settings from the submenu.

Project Settings

Select Proxy Servers from the drop down menu on the top of the Project Settings screen.

.Select Proxy Servers

Select "Use Only The Selected Proxy Servers" from the drop-down menu at the the top right of the screen.

Use Only The Selected Proxy Servers

Select the category of Proxy Servers to assign for use by this project.

Select UK Proxy Servers

We have now completed the guide on how to add the Proxy Servers to projects.

Improving performance when using multiple Proxy Servers

You can improve the performance of AWR by increasing the maximum number of connections allowed by AWR. By default this number is 5 (including your direct connection). You can increase this by going to the Settings menu on the left hand navigation bar and selecting Global Settings from the submenu. Select Performance from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen and then select General Performance Settings from the sub-menu.

Select Settings from the left hand navigation menu.

Select General Performance Settings from the submenu.

Select Global Performance Settings

Set the Maximum number of simultaneous connections to a higher value.

Change Maximum Number of Simultaneous Connections

The recommended settings are your maximum number of Proxy Servers +1 (dependant on internet connection speed, bandwidth and throughput):

If you have 10 Proxy Servers then set the Maximum number of simultaneous connections to 11.

If you have 20 Proxy Servers then set the Maximum number of simultaneous connections to 21.

If you have over 99 Proxy Servers then it is recommended you limit the number to or fewer than 99 (maximum number of simultaneous connections).

Frequently asked questions

Can I add additional Proxy Servers to categories after I purchase them?

Yes you can add additional Proxy Servers to your categories by clicking on the category and selecting the “edit” button above the list of Proxy Servers. You can either carry out an additional manual proxy addition or ask us for a new import file for your Proxy Servers. If you ask for a new import file; the Proxy Servers which are already categorised will remain categorised and the new Proxy Servers will be added to the default category ready to be added to other categories.

If I add new Proxy Servers to a category do I need to update the project to reflect that?

As long as you have selected a category of Proxy Servers in the project; you do not need to update the project. As long as the Proxy Servers show up within the correct category in the proxy manager they will be dynamically updated for use within the project.

I need to add different regions of US Proxy Servers held in different states, how do I do this?

Similar to the US and UK categories, instead type in the name of the state instead of the country name, you can then select the states to add to each individual project.
